1.Exhaust Leak!
One of the more common signs of an exhaust leak is increased sound from the muffler of the vehicle. This could be a tell-tale sign that your exhaust needs work for a leak. There may also be a vibration on the steering wheel of the car, depending on the size of the leak to your exhaust.
2. A Loose Heat Shield!
A loose heat shield can sound like shaking a big can full of small rocks! Obviously, this is not something you want while driving around town. If you hear a sound like this or something like loose metal rattling, it may be time to head into the local muffler shop and get the heat shield replaced.
3.Decreased Fuel Economy!
If you’ve noticed your vehicle getting less and less miles per gallon, it could be a sign that your exhaust system needs help. A proper exhaust and muffler system will increase your fuel economy and ensure your vehicle is operating at maximum miles gallon for the make, model, and year of vehicle you are driving!
4.Catalytic Converter!
While one of the more expensive repairs to the exhaust system of a car or truck, the catalytic converter is also one of the most important, and they have even be known to be stolen by thieves looking to make a quick buck. If there is something wrong with the catalytic converter or it has disappeared because of thievery, you may also notice a loud sound similar to the one that would signify a loose heat shield.
5.Decreased Performance!
If you notice your car losing performance it could be a sign of excess back-pressure! Unlike other symptoms that increase the volume of the exhaust and muffler, increased back-pressure would muffle the sound of the muffler, and cause your vehicle to hesitate instead of accelerate when you press the gas. This would mean that it’s time to head into the local exhaust shop and get a pressure test, which is the best way to figure out the source and location of blockage that could be disrupting your exhaust system.
